Windows 7 users can right click a task bar icon to reveal additional options, for certain applications, in a jump-list. It is a useful feature, but there is still much room for improvements. Jumplist Extender allows you to customize these jump lists by adding your own options. You can assign one or more shortcuts to any task bar icon, hotkeys, command line parameters and more.

The application is free and you can use it on both 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. The setup file is roughly one and a half MB and it takes only a few seconds to complete the installation process. The application's impact on a computer's performance is insignificant, due to its modest system requirements.

When you launch the application, a small window will present three options, for creating new jump-list items, editing existing ones or importing them. If you decide to create new items, you will have to select one of your task-bar shortcuts or an item from the Start menu, on a standard Open dialog. The next step is to select the targeted application's active window, after which Jumplist Extender will load its main interface.

While the main interface is loaded, you can change the targeted application's title and the path to its executable, if you want to. The most important settings can be made on a separate tab. You can add tasks, shortcuts, categories or separators, on the left side of the window, and set up their behavior on the right side. If you decide to create a new task, you can specify a keyboard shortcut and set Jumplist Extender to ignore it if the program is already running, to open a new window and to perform other actions. Alternatively, you can add a command line or define an AutoHotKey script.

If you add a new shortcut to a jump-list, you can target any file or folder on your hard drive. When you are done, you must save and apply your configurations, by selecting the appropriate option, located in the File menu. You will find your new options, in the same jump-list, when you right click the targeted task bar icon. The order in which you add your new options, categories and separators will reflect in the jump-list.

Pros

You can add your own options in a task bar icon's jump list. The application allows you to define tasks, shortcuts, add command lines and more. Configuring new options is quite easy, so you will not spend too much time with Jumplist Extender's options.

Cons

The application is available only for Windows 7. Jumplist Extender allows you to decide what options should be displayed when you right click a task-bar icon.
